You ever wear black suits? Chances are pretty high that you say yes. Do you sometimes have difficulties in choosing what color of shoes you should wear to these? If yes, follow us on this guide. We got you. A black suit is a power move for many men. It’s the suit they put on when they have to bring their best. So lets make sure that you don’t ruin that power suit with the wrong set of shoes. Here is our best practices when we wear it:
Eddie Redmayne kills it in a black suit.
1. Black Shoes
This is the most “correct” answer you’ll get to this question. A black suit paired with black dress shoes is perfect. It’s clean, it’s simple and it looks great. You got a few options here though. Do you want to wear brogues? These will bring down the formality just a bit and could be a way of dressing it down a bit. Or perhaps you prefer derbys or oxfords? The classic business choice and will always be a safe choice.
Our two favorite black shoes currently are:
1. GH BASS – GRAINED LEATHER BROGUES: 125€ (on sale right now)
Grained leather brogues. Has been a favorite for the last five years. Will never let you down. And at this price point, it should be your next wardrobe investment.
2. WANT LESS ESSENTIALS – DERBY SHOES: 395€
Classic, but with a modern shape. And don’t worry too much about the price. Because they will not let you down for many years. It’s an investment, like most of your shoes should be. Be a step ahead of your co-workers and dress a bit sharper with these bad boys.
2. Dark Brown Shoes
An advice from us: never wear contrast shoes to your black suit (unless it’s white sneakers, which we will address afterwards). Don’t pair your black suit with your light brown shoes. It looks awful. If you have to go for a different shade than black, make it another very dark one. We like the dark brown. Not just a little dark, but very dark. Almost black, you can say. It can give the black suit a little of a contrast, but not too much. Do it with caution. We are not that much into all of these #menswear rules, but don’t play with a black suit. Please don’t.
Our two favorite dark brown shoes currently are:
1. MEERMIN – DOUBLE MONKS: 160€
Argh, a pair of double monks. If you want that black power suit to become even more powerfull, pair it with a pair od double monks. These are made in french boxcalf and with york soles. Not bad!
2. GRENSON – LEO DERBY SHOE: £210.00
Greyson knows a thing or two about making great shoes. These derbys is a bit more casual and rugged than most, and that is exactly why we love them so much.
3. White Sneakers
Slick, formal, yet casual and youthful.
If you have followed us just a bit, then you know how much we are into white sneakers together with a suit. It’s youth paired with old. It’s formal paired with informal. Just like we love knitted ties because of its informal feeling, the same thing goes for the white sneakers. Sometimes oxfords, brogues, derbys and double monks feels too stiff. You better find a good pair of these, because when you start rocking them with your suits, the shoes can easily become your favorite.Just make sure it’s the right type of white sneakers. Not running sneakers. Them have to slim and have a clean silhouette. Not make too much noise, you know.
Our two favorite white sneakers currently are:
1. ADIDAS – MUNCHEN LEATHER SNEAKERS: 90€
Rubber soles and stripes meet the clean, white sneakers. And they do a really good job here. A great choice when it comes to the many white sneakers there are on the market.
2. MAISON MARGIELA – REPLICA SUEDE AND LEATHER SNEAKERS: 345€
Seriously, the coolest white sneakers out there currently. The mix of white and light grey is awesome. The silhouette are slim and narrow and looks stunningly to a suit.
