AN IVY TRAVEL GUIDE: 6 THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN HAMBURG

In need of a quick break from the hectic everyday life? How about a quick getaway to a metropolis? You should definitely pay Hamburg a visit, if you ask us. That city has become a favorite of ours. Despite being one of Germany’s largest and most industrial cities, Hamburg is dominated by water and greenery. The city is full of beautiful places to hang out and chill. Whether you love art, shopping, flowers and gardens or great food, Hamburg has it all.

We just visited the city last week, and made a list of six thing, that you should check out if you consider to go to the city.

Where to sleep?
Wanna treat yourself a little extra good? Take a night or two a the Reichhoff. We guarantee you, that the architecture in this hotel will blow you away. Especially the lobby is a masterpiece of monumental architecture and design elements from different periods combined with the dynamic atmosphere of this amazing city. Whether or not you decide to stay at the hotel (it’s a bit expensive), make sure to stop by – at least to enjoy the view of the lobby.

Where to eat breakfast? Are you up for some Parisien-vibes, even though you are in Hamburg? Cafe de Paris serves the best french inspired breakfast, which make you forget that you actually are in Germany. If you, like us, loves a great croissant and a cup of coffee, this is the place to go.

Where to have dinner? Visit Die Bank. One of the best known restaurants in the city. The restaurant is full of history and is located in – as the name indicates – an old bank building. The setting is so cool and oozes of style and the legacy of the building. Further more the food and drinks are rather good as well. Make sure to order a table in good time. The place is damn popular.

What to see?
Do you like the peace and beautiful colors in a botanical garden? You should definitely visit Planten un Blumen in the main center of Hamburg. The park is famous for its water-light concerts, public theater and music performances. But what we love the most is the japanese area with the most beautiful small tea house. This is a quiet spot in the hectic metropolis.

What to see:
If you stroll around the city, you should definitely take some time to look up. Forget about the fancy fronts on the popular stores and stuff. The architecture of the old historical buildings are just amazing. And what’s even more amazing is that Hamburg has a variety of architectural styles throughout the city.

What to see? Do you like art? Hamburg actually offers many cool places to look at art. Personally, we especially like contemporary art and photography. Therefore one of our favorite places to go is Deichtorhallen, which is one of Europe’s largest exhibition center for contemporary art and photography located in two historical buildings.
