MR. JON HJELHOLT

A danish supermodel with both feet firmly on the ground.

Meet Mr. Jon Hjelholt. Perhaps you already feel like you know him a little. Jon is a danish supermodel. He was also a part of that cast of models that appeared on the screen in “De Smukke Drenge” back in 2016. Back then we followed his journey while he was chasing dreams as an international model.
We followed him during fashion weeks, on the catwalk for Versace and then we followed the huge contrast between his hometown and the fashion metropolises.

Now you can learn to know him a little better.

We had a chat with our good friend on everything from the model industry to the greatest experiences and not least why the tie has a special status for him.

Jon is wearing a tie from our new collection – coming soon.

Q: As a Model, How Will You Describe The Job?

Literally; Chaotic! There’s always small changes here and there. A what may seem like random things can really have consequences for your career as a model. But if you accept this, it’s also a very funny job.

Fortunately I have been privileged to travel and experience a lot. The job has offered me tons of different stuff like rodeo riding, weeks without work and meetings with politicians as well as moviestars. And then we have the bunk beds in filthy model apartments that I have shared with horny guys on drugs, underwear photoshoots in freezing weather in Harlem, I have walked a show where Kanye West was backstage, and I once wore a fur coat that cost 1.5 million. Afterwards I had to take the subway home.

What’s Your Greatest Experience As A Model?

Among many, it’s probably my first show as exclusive model for Versace. The show took place in Donatella Versace’s huge mansion in the middle of Milan. It was actually the first time I was traveling – so just to be allowed to sit on an airplane was big for me. It was actually only a few days after I was scouted by 2PM, which meant that I was absolutely new to the model industry.

But the whole process has been a great experience. I come from Gudme, a small town on Sydfyn with only 1,000 inhabitants, so to be allowed to travel alone and stay around the world’s major cities has been an amazing learning experience.

You Are Mainly An International “Face”. Why Don’t You Do More Jobs In DK?

I don’t want to sound supercilious, but my bureau made a decision. The danish market was simply to small for me. They wanted me to work internationally for the greatest fashion houses. For several years I have also had a great collaborarion with Versace in Milan and Givenchy in Paris. Here I am well established, which I strangely wouldn’t be, if I should work i Denmark.

If You Should Choose One Show and One Campaign To Appear In. What Should It Be?

I would love to appear in a Versace campaign one day. It sounds good to be a “Versace man”.
I have had an option with them for many seasons, but it’s never resulted in a campaign yet.
Since I have done shows for them for several seasons, it would be a culminations of a great process if I could do a campaign.

I would also really love to work with Tom Ford and Thom Browne too.

As A Model You Travel A Lot. What’s Your Favorite City?

It varies a lot to me, which city I love the most. I have lived in major cities like Paris, London, Milan and New York for a few months. Paris were in many years my favorite, but I was staying in that area where the terrorist attack in November 2015 took place. Unfortunately it took a little of the charm from the romantic Paris. I also love New York – especially for its diversity. And then we have Milan. In that city I booked my first job and I love the sense of style in that city.

As A Model You Experience Many Different Stylings. But Your Own Style Is Very Classic. Why?

Mainly it’s because I want to wear ties. I think that a tie is a symbol of taking the time for something. I take my self a little more seriously when I wear ties: it gives me a greater pleasure to talk nice and polite to people. The tie connotes to me an ideal of good music, gentlemanship, romance, discipline and attention to detail.

If You Should Pick One Favorite From Us?

To choose one tie has been impossible, since I already have 10 AN IVY ties in my wardrobe. I think The Well Greyed and Ending Tricolore are the ones that I use the most. Further more I love the aesthetics of The Dapper and The Simple French from your collaboration with Esben Bjerre.
