STYLE RESOLUTION NUMBER TWO: CHOOSE LEATHER
FEELING THE NEED TO TRY SOMETHING NEW? WE GOT SOME GREAT SUGGESTIONS IF YOU WANT TO DRESS A LITTLE SHARPER THIS YEAR. THIS IS NUMBER TWO.
Last week we discussed our first style resolution. New week, new resolution. This is another key thing to step up your style game. We love a good pair of sneakers, and of course you do too. But this year, try to step it up a notch more than you did last year. Wear fine, leather shoes even more. It’s super cool even with a pair of denim jeans and a tee.
We know they can be expensive, we know it can hurt your pockets a lot. But think about it this way: if you treat them well – and of course you do that, when they cost big $$$ – they will last a LONG time. Not a lifetime, but close to. Our favorites leather shoes have been in our wardrobe for several years, and they look just as good now as they did then. Because we treat them well!
A few tips:
1. Think Context
Off course not all shoes are created equal, so there can be a few tricks to catch up on before buying your next pair of fine leather shoes. First of all, think about the context you will wear them in and to what kind of outfit. Is it in very formal setting where you have a lot of business meeting with people in a strict navy-blue-suit uniform? Then Monk Straps, Derbys and Oxfords might be the right choice for you. If you like to mix things up and dress smart-casual, brogues and loafers would be great additions.
And of course, think in terms of color. What pair of suits and trousers do you wear most often? If it’s black, go for a black or very dark brown shoe. Is it grey, you can go for a classic brown or burgundy shade. And if it’s classic navy suit, dark brown and black shoes are the best. Overall, you will never go wrong with the classic colors of leather shoes.
2: Trust the classic shoe makers and invest
They have been in the game for long. And you know, ‘only the fittest survives‘. They have been around long for good reason. Because they know what they are doing. So what brands, you might ask? Church’s, Alden, Grenson, Trickers, Cheaney, J. M. Weston and Tod’s, are all great brands to look at. Right now some of them even got their sale going on, so hurry up, man – it’s the time to invest.
